Knicks Hire Mike Brown as Head Coach in Surprise Move Ahead of 2025 Season

An NBA Coach of the Year two times, Brown succeeded a fired Tom Thibodeau, who had orchestrated the Knicks to its farthest playoff performance in a quarter Century.

It came as a surprise when the Sacramento Kings relieved the 55-year Brown in December after they had just extended his contract.

Brown was just declared the most recent Coach of the Year in the 2022-23 season when the Kings had a 48-34 record and the third seed in the Western Conference, ending the longest playoff drought in NBA history.

According to a statement issued by Knicks president Leon Rose, Mike has coached in the largest stages in our sport and he has championship pedigree at our organization.

His experience as the bench leader in the NBA finals, winning 4 titles as the assistant coach, and his growth and development of players will all prove helpful to us as we seek to bring a championship to the New York fans.
Two years later when Cleveland Cavaliers recorded 66 wins, surpassing other teams, Brown was also voted as the Coach of the Year in 2009.

He has coached the San Antonio Spurs team which won the 2003 NBA title and with the Golden State Warriors coaching staff which won in 2017, 2018 and 2022 to win the title.

Fellow title hopefuls the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers have both been dealt massive blows in terms of injuries to their star men Jayson Tatum and Tyrese Haliburton all the way in Achillies with the Knicks comfortably sitting within the Eastern Conference going into the new season.

Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns All-Stars were highly effective offensively in their inaugural year playing together in New York as the team reached the Eastern Conference Finals.
